Mr. Palacios started working in 1993 as a part-time runner with Sierra Title of Hidalgo County Inc. In 1995, he officially became a full-time runner with the same company. In 2010, he was laid off and was rehired in his position six years later. Furthermore, he is also passionate and skilled about woodwork and restoring furniture which led him to start his own restoring furniture business in 2019. Mr. Palacios considers one of his greatest achievements to be restoring an old piece of furniture for a client which belonged to her grandfather. He repaired the doors, repainted, and finished it with a black stain. The client was very impressed by it.

With his furniture restoration and woodworking business, Mr. Palacios demonstrates his abilities in building small cabinets and tables. As a labor of love, he puts in these hours after his full-time position and on weekends. Mr. Palacios attributes his success to his outgoing personality and ability to build rapport with others. He is guided by the mantra to treat others the way he would like to be treated. Furthermore, he is inspired in his work by his mother, who was a single parent and raised eight children. He lost his father when he was eight years old. His father instilled in him the values of honesty and hard work in order to accomplish his goals in life.

Looking toward the future, Mr. Palacios hopes to grow and expand the business and continue his work as a runner for Sierra Title of Hidalgo County Inc. In 2000, he was honored to receive the Employee of the Year Award from Sierra Title of Hidalgo County Inc. Outside of his career, Mr. Palacios supports community benefit activities and organizations.

Ms. Cotton was inspired by her mechanic friend to learn more about computers. She carried out this interest in her academic pursuits, receiving a Bachelor of Science in management information systems at the Peter Kiewit Institute at the College of Information Science and Technology at the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 2004. While matriculating in college, she was diagnosed with schizophrenia. Though this was difficult to learn, it fueled her to remain strong and depend on her faith in God. She was also supported through this by family.

Throughout all of her endeavors thus far, the highlight of Ms. Cotton’s career has been her affiliation with the International Fraternity of Delta Sigma Phi. In addition, she is a member of the International Society for Female Professionals, Black Women in Computing and the Independence Center/Virtual Clubhouse Group. She is looking forward to growing within her new role at Academy Bank.

Ms. Newcombe is an expert in all things related to sewing machines, from selling and teaching classes. The technology in these machines includes complete computerization and embroidery capabilities. She boasts more than two decades of experience in this business and attributes her present-day success to Patricia Wallace for teaching her all she knows and for guiding her to where she is today.

Ms. Newcombe became involved in her profession after high school, where she was looking for work and saw an ad for sewing. She went to the place of the ad and the company opened the doors for her to take sewing classes in Brother, Baby Lock, Husqvarna Vikings, Janome Elna, Pfaff, Singer, White, as well as others that resulted in sewing certifications. Patricia Wallace was also a great inspiration for Ms. Newcombe to get deeply involved in the field. In 2019, she launched her latest endeavor with Becky’s Best Sewing Machines. Prior to that, she served from 1998 to 2019 with All Sew.

Always committed to giving back to her community, Ms. Newcombe has been instrumental in providing masks to essential works during the Covid-19 pandemic. As the owner of her business, Ms. Newcombe excels in numerous areas of expertise. She teaches people how to use their products whether they bought it from her or from somewhere else. She is able to troubleshoot and provide minor repairs, all while doing the paperwork and ensuring her customers are happy. Her hard work and abilities have been recognized in a Featured on a PBS segment about her sewing, sewing machines, and what she can do, as well as a 2020 resolution in her honor by the Roscommon Township Board.
