Involved in his community, he donates and maintains vending machines to volunteer fire stations. He enjoys his line of work and is considered an expert within his field. Eduardo Palacios, Runner at the Sierra Title of Hidalgo County Inc. and Owner of Like New Furniture Restoration by Martin Palacios, has been recognized as a Marquis Emerging Leader for their contributions and achievements in their fields.

Mr. Palacios started working in 1993 as a part-time runner with Sierra Title of Hidalgo County Inc. In 1995, he officially became a full-time runner with the same company. In 2010, he was laid off and was rehired in his position six years later. Furthermore, he is also passionate and skilled about woodwork and restoring furniture which led him to start his own restoring furniture business in 2019. Mr. Palacios considers one of his greatest achievements to be restoring an old piece of furniture for a client which belonged to her grandfather. He repaired the doors, repainted, and finished it with a black stain. The client was very impressed by it.

With his furniture restoration and woodworking business, Mr. Palacios demonstrates his abilities in building small cabinets and tables. As a labor of love, he puts in these hours after his full-time position and on weekends. Mr. Palacios attributes his success to his outgoing personality and ability to build rapport with others. He is guided by the mantra to treat others the way he would like to be treated. Furthermore, he is inspired in his work by his mother, who was a single parent and raised eight children. He lost his father when he was eight years old. His father instilled in him the values of honesty and hard work in order to accomplish his goals in life.

Looking toward the future, Mr. Palacios hopes to grow and expand the business and continue his work as a runner for Sierra Title of Hidalgo County Inc. In 2000, he was honored to receive the Employee of the Year Award from Sierra Title of Hidalgo County Inc. Outside of his career, Mr. Palacios supports community benefit activities and organizations.

Matthew Jordan, Owner of J-Enterprises/Falcon4, has been recognized as a Marquis Emerging Leader for their contributions and achievements in the field.

Mr. Jordan is an entrepreneur who is currently the owner of J-Enterprises and Falcon4. J-Enterprises is a company Mr. Jordan did with Amway. In this venture, he expanded his knowledge of networking and marketing other people’s products.  His other business, Falcon4, is a system he did with TD Ameritrade, which he put through the Better Business Bureau. He started the business in 2013 with the intention of helping communities get started in stocks and bonds. He helped struggling but promising companies by investing in them and helping them refurbish their offerings and branding. Falcon4 continues to operate at present. In both of these lines of work, he has utilized his skills in business marketing strategy, advertising, and public speaking.

Mr. Jordan first became interested in his field after working in local politics while President George Bush was in office. When President Obama took office, he learned about the Affordable Health Care Act (Obamacare), and became interested in learning more about the medical field and how a program like that can affect people of all socioeconomic classes. In all of his endeavors, he has set out to help others. Mr. Jordan credits all of his family members who were entrepreneurs as the inspiration for his success. They were role models for him as they had their own businesses and companies and taught him how to work and manage his own.

Looking toward the future, Mr. Jordan would like to see the RDU (Raleigh-Durham International Airport) program or the bus system operational in Durham. In terms of Falcon4, he has always dreamed of opening up his own stock market branch with a brokerage firm. Throughout his career, he has always been involved with his community. He has given back by being involved with the American Heart Association, Feed the Children, [Moonlit’ Warriors, and many other organizations, especially ones that focus on helping injured soldiers and children.

Danyelle Paul, Owner of Virtual X Inc DBA VX Virtual Reality Arcade, has been recognized as a Marquis Emerging Leader for their contributions and achievements in the field of entertainment.

Ms. Paul was inspired to open a virtual reality arcade after taking her son and his friends to Busch Gardens and seeing the enjoyment they got out of the arcade at the park. At the end of the day, she asked the kids what they enjoyed most at that park, and it was the virtual reality arcade. From there, Ms. Paul was inspired to bring the magic to her own community and began researching the industry. In 2018, her dream was realized upon opening the doors to the Virtual X Inc DBA VX Virtual Reality Arcade.

Prior to starting her business, Ms. Paul garnered experience in business management as the co-owner of It Tastes for Wine. She served in this capacity from 2014 to 2019. Before this role, she served as the Executive Assistant to the Vice President of Information Systems for the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company. On a civic level, she has served as the co-president for her kid’s preschool. Out of all her achievement, she considers motherhood to be the one that stands out the most.  Business-wise, what warms her heart the most is to see the kids and adults smiling and experiencing virtual reality in a safe environment.

In five years, Ms. Paul plans on having multiple franchises of the VX Virtual Reality Arcade. She sees herself going to the different locations, and helping others build their business. She would also like to have a training facility. She attributes her success to her two children who are so amazing and inspirational. She maintains professional affiliation with the St. Petersburg Rotary Club and in 2021 was recognized with the Women in Rotary Award.

Ms. Davis was driven to work in this profession by her desire to benefit the community and serve as a citizen for each neighborhood.   As her line of work touches every part of society, from customers, education partners, and business owners, she finds it paramount to be involved in every area. In addition, Ms. Davis spends time within these communities with students and their parents to highlight the range of careers that are very available at Atlanta Gaslight. To date, Ms. Davis’ most notable achievement has been developing an 18-month program for diversifiers. This program entails companies across different industries (engineering, sales, security, etc.) learning how to do business with larger corporations.

Ms. Davis had always been interested in working in business and first earned a Bachelor of Arts in human resources from Georgia Southern University in 1998. She later received an MBA from the Stetson School of Business and Economics from Mercer University in 2013. Prior to joining Atlanta Gaslight, she garnered skills and experience as the Director of Supplier Diversity for Southern Company Gas. Looking toward the future, Ms. Davis would like to make more of a difference in the DEI space for minorities and women. She maintains professional membership with the American Association of Black Energy. She would like to see stronger partnerships with her education partners, students, parents, guidance counselors and teachers. She would like to continue building the pathway for students who are interested.

Alex Olsen-Smith, Owner and CEO of BSD Enterprises LLC Traffic Control Flagging Specialists, has been recognized as a Marquis Emerging Leader for their contributions and achievements in the field.

Mr. Olsen-Smith is a third-generation construction industry worker and was inspired by his grandfathers, who were both contractors. What originally felt like a punch to his career when the company he was working for closed without any notice, ended up being an opportunity for immense career growth and exploration. At the same time, his best friend and father were going to get their flagging certification, which lead him to also become certified. He was hired by DePaul Industries and worked for the Department of Transportation, which afforded him the necessary skills and expertise to start his own company. Since 2009, Mr. Olsen-Smith has been the owner and CEO of BSD Enterprises LLC Traffic Control Flagging Specialists.

Mr. Olsen-Smith contributes his success to his clients who have stuck by him through the years. He is exceptionally proud of the services that he has been able to provide, and the men and women who have worked for him over the years and have contributed to his business success. One of his highest honors has been being an outstanding nationally recognized business with A+ regulation from the Better Business Bureau.

While Mr. Olsen-Smith is not sure where he will be in five years, he is appreciative of how far he has come in this industry.  He thanks God for everything he has. He hopes to continue growing his business and providing opportunities for people to work. He also has personal goals which include widening his knowledge and certifications in the industry. For example, he has both certifications (Certified Flagging specialist) and is working toward getting a Washington flaggers instructor certification so he can teach others this line of work. Furthermore, Mr. Olsen-Smith is working toward getting his traffic control supervisor instructor trainer certification.

Miranda Stoneman-Olsen-Smith, CEO and Traffic Control Supervisor of BSD Enterprises LLC Traffic Control Flagging Specialists, has been recognized as a Marquis Emerging Leader for their contributions and achievements in the field.

Ms. Smith became involved in her profession after struggling to find a job that matched her interests and need to provide for her family. She met Alex, who later became her husband, and he introduced her to his line of work and saw the opportunity for her to grow as a businessperson. She was first trained in flagging and then migrated over to being a TCS after becoming certified. She started pushing herself to do more which resulted in receiving both of the TCS licenses which was a big accomplishment for her. Ms. Smith’s success in this venture also push the business to be better and greater and allow them to do everything they need to do.

Ms. Smith holds a Traffic Control Supervisor Certification for both Oregon and Washington, and a CCS license. So far, she has enjoyed learning every aspect of the traffic control business. She welcomed the opportunity to learn flagging and now translates her skills and expertise within the industry to keep the business organized. In addition, she is instrumental in running the company while spending time wither children.

Looking toward the future, Ms. Smith endeavors to lead the company in a direction that allows it to flourish as much as it can. In her own personal goals, she is seeking out additional certifications so she could be a traffic control instructor because she likes teaching and explaining. She wants to continue to make a big impact in this industry and wants to stand on her own two feet and prove to other women in this industry that they can do it too.

Ms. Tillman attributes her success to her daughter who has always encouraged her to be a better person. In this sense, Ms. Tillman has grown over time with CHESCO Services, a Chesterfield, SC-based company that specializes in assisting families and people with disabilities to participate fully in their homes and communities. She started with CHESCO in 2015 as a receptionist and human resource clerk, and in two years was promoted to the Fiscal Clerk-Accounts Payable. During her time here, she has earned an AAS in general business from the Northeastern Technical College, and most recently in 2020, earned a Bachelor of Science in business management from Coker University.

Prior to her current roles, Ms. Tillman served with the U.S. Air Force for eight years. She considers her time in the service as the highlight of her career thus far. Alice Pries, President of Sunshine Door Specialists, has been recognized as a Marquis Emerging Leader for their contributions and achievements in the field business management.

For Ms. Pries, the passion for her work was instilled to her more than two decades ago, when her father founded the company. Ever since she was a teenager, she has been involved with the company. In 2012, Ms. Pries was working in private banking while having her first child and felt incomplete with the work she was doing. Her father offered her a position with the company that allowed her to work from home managing the books and accounting. When her father became ill with Alzheimer’s disease in 2019, Ms. Pries was invited to step forward within the company and became the president. In addition, it was transferred in her name. Since then, she has worked hard to continue living out her father’s dream of being the top specialist in Miami and surrounding areas for sliding glass door repairs.

In addition to earning a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations, Florida International University in 2007, Ms. Pries carries with her the drive of being an immigrant. Along with her family, she immigrated to the United States from Brazil. She studied hard to learn English, Spanish and French, and earned a scholarship to FIU where she majored in international relations. She was inspired by her father who hustled cleaning patios until he opened the family business.

Prior to working with and eventually becoming the president of Sunshine Cleaning Specialists, Ms. Pries worked as a Client Account Assistant at Itau Private Bank from 2010 to 2012 and as an Operations Assistant at Kawa Capital Management from 2008 to 2010. In her spare time, she enjoys homeschooling her children, traveling, speaking different languages (fluent in English, Portuguese, and Spanish), kayaking, horseback riding, spending time in nature and learning Martial Arts. Ms. Pries endeavors to continue building the family business and providing high-quality sliding glass door repair services to her clients.

Araceli “Cheli” Soza, Dog Groomer at Hill Country Grooming, has been recognized as a Marquis Emerging Leader for their contributions and achievements in the field of dog grooming.

Though Hill Country Grooming has been a staple pet grooming services among the community in Wimberley, TX for some time, Ms. Soza recently took over the business. The story of her family rescuing the business begins with her sister, who used to work there. Due to this, her father purchased the business after the opportunity presented itself. In March 2020, the business was then passed on to Ms. Soza who has helmed her craft in pet grooming services and business leadership through the years. Through her many years of dedicated work in retail, she garnered skills and experience that are unmatched.

Ms. Soza noted learning how to groom the dogs was the highlight of her career. While there is a lot of work to the job, it is endlessly rewarding for her and her clients. She does everything she can to provide a positive environment for people to bring in their dogs. Owning three dogs herself, she knows that pets are important members of the family. She is constantly evolving and learning new ways to make her business better and is looking forward to completing a Bachelor of Arts in business from Strayer University in 2021.

Due to the nature of her work, Ms. Soza received the Best of Wimberley Runner-Up Award in 2020 and First Place for Dog Grooming in 2017. She maintains professional affiliation with the NFIB for Small Businesses and is involved in her community by donating free grooms. With big things on the horizon, Ms. Soza envisions an expansion of the business in order to offer boarding and cat grooming services within the next five years.
